Manual Therapy
Manual Therapy is a hands-on
approach to help you restore function. Manual techniques treat
musculoskeletal diseases and disorders that affect your
muscles, soft tissues and joints. In this type of therapy,
our physical therapist uses his or her hands without
the assistance of machines. Our physical therapist starts
by assessing your joints for alignment and mobility,
and the muscles across these joints for balance and strength.
Subsequent treatment for you might include stretching,
soft tissue and joint mobilization or myofascial release.
This helps stretch your muscles and improve your range
of motion while relieving pain. The goal of manual physical
therapy is to reduce your pain and restore movement.
The Mulligan Technique
The Mulligan Technique utilizes active
movement with joint mobilizations to restore
your proper range of motion in a joint such as your ankles,
knees and shoulders as well as your neck and back. This treatment
has progressed from its foundation in remedial gymnastics
and active exercise to therapist-applied passive physiological
movements and accessory techniques. Brian Mulligan's
concept of mobilizations with movement (MWMS) in the
arms and legs and the joints in the spine. SNAGS have
evolved into therapist-applied movements combined with
your active movements to improve motion and decrease
pain.
McConnell Approach
The McConnell Approach utilizes
taping techniques to improve your function. This
includes injuries to the upper extremities, knees and
ankles. Taping and bracing can be used in sports: either
to provide support for your weakened limbs or to prevent
injuries. Another type of taping and bracing refers
to the protection and rehabilitation of the spine,
giving you a better sense of proper back or neck position.
(ASTYM)
Augmented Soft Tissue Mobilization
(ASTYM)
Augmented Soft Tissue Mobilization (ASTYM) is a system
that uses instruments, exercise and stretching to treat
your chronic musculskeletal disorders in the extremities
and into the back and neck. This treatment
is a revolutionary process that heals your soft tissue
problems. ASTYM (A-stim) treatment is a rehabilitation
program that stimulates the regenerative healing process
of your body. This approach is a non-invasive therapy
that works quickly and consistently. The ASTYM system
rejuvenates muscles, tendons and ligaments and helps
reduce scar tissue problems from old injuries. Common
injuries that respond well to this type of therapy are
Achilles tendonitis and tennis elbow. There is scientific
background, data and experience that prove the benefits
of ASTYM.
Progressive
Exercise
Active participation by the you, the
patient, is required for physical therapy to be successful
in restoring your normal function. Exercise is one component
of every physical therapy program, and performance of
a home exercise program is mandatory. Therapeutic exercise
and neuromuscular re-education help restore your flexibility,
strength, coordination, and balance, which all contribute
to your ability to enjoy an active, pain free life.
